Message [encrypted]: how do you feel about going dark with your hair
Message [encrypted]: be there at five.
Message: sure
Message: I wouldn’t bet on LL being fun, but I’m sure he can drum up something for you to do.
Message: he’s not fun
Message: that’s the whole point
Every day is the same: wake up around noon, shower, eat some cereal if the milk’s still good, eat some leftover pizza if it isn’t, and then sit on the same couch she slept on and play video games until she starts getting a headache. Maybe she’ll go for a walk, but recently there hasn’t been much to see. Everyone’s staying indoors, and she gets strange looks when she wanders around. Everything is so boring.
Arya wishes Gendry were home all the time with her (home - it’s weird to call this place home). He always catches her attention and holds it close, until the night is over and he lets her go again. It seems like she wakes up every day only to wait until he comes back from work. It’s nice, being with him, but she can’t stayed cooped up forever. She loves exploring and seeing new things and being outside; and the apartment’s starting to smell a bit rotten.
But she doesn’t want to be alone. Alone she gets strange looks, and she’s constantly in fear that she’ll get recognized. She knows she’s slipped through the cracks, but even with her hair cut and dyed, it seems like people still recognize her sometimes. She thinks it a game until she remembers it’s not; she remembers that she’s the sister of a traitor, that she has no place in England anymore. That’s the only time she thinks of Sansa.
Arya wraps her hand around the cold doorknob, leaning her forehead against the door for a moment. This all seemed like a game up until now: sneak into the home office, make Beric’s life difficult, see his eye twitch after spending a few hours with her. She isn’t able to say that doesn’t make her a little bit happy to think about it. He deserves it for giving her nothing to do, after all.
But now she wonders why she’s here. It’s obvious Beric has no use for her; it seems like he keeps her around out of pity, and all she wants to do now is find a way back home (but what about Gendry? she thinks). She refuses to ask for Beric’s help; that would be like admitting to him that she’s failed, that she’s not good enough, that she can never be good enough.
Now she feels like her arrival here is just her asking: Give me a reason to stay. Give me the same speech you gave me to get me to join. Prove to me that I’m usefull. Show me that you need me.
And part of her wants him to say he doesn’t.
She opens the door without knocking and sees him sitting at his desk. She quickly closes it behind her and leans against it. “Hey.”
